Nga Taonga Takaro - Traditional Maori Games Wananga

As Traditional Maori Games such as Ki-o-Rahi, continues to gain popularity and transition from a Maori setting into the mainstream, the need for professional development surrounding Maori sports, games and pastime activities has arisen. He Haumanu o Nga Kemu Maori programme and subsequent wananga is targeted at and provides the opportunity for those in the Awakairangi (Hutt Valley) community to develop an understanding for and knowledge in Traditional Maori Games. Ki-o-Rahi in New Zealand is growing exponentially by the day. It is being talked about, played and taught in schools and universities around the country. The aim of this specific community programme is to "Learn About, Engage In and Retain Access To" cultural related pastime activities. Develop practical ideas for implementing the Physical Activity Leaders programme into your school.
This workshop will give you the tools to train students as leaders in physical activity. You will be provided with planning techniques and given the opportunity to work through how to make this work in your school. You will have the opportunity to hear first hand from teachers who have implemented PALs and from children who are PALs. Be part of an Amazing Race that will give you the tools to plan a fun physical experience while providing fantastic cross circular links.

WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED
JUNIOR TEACHERS - EARLY YEARS FUNDAMENTALS
"Fundamental Skills - Where do they begin and how do they develop?"
This workshop will demonstrate how milestones and movement can impact on children's physical and cognitive development.
Teachers will be helped to identify what the fundamental movement patterns in young children and why this development is so important. Teachers will be provided with practical examples to use in the classroom.
The second part of the workshop will look at transitioning into using the Fundamental Movement Skills Manual recommended for use with children aged 5 - 12 years.
